Unethical Business Behavior

Elon Musk ,as a leader of a successful and thriving establishment; Tesla and Space X, have been seen at events and parties where he has reportedly to be using several kinds of hard drugs not considering his global status and it affects the brand he represents. Additionally, it was gathered that the directors of his companies also who also doubles as his friends are always seen together at places where illegal drugs are freely distributed.

According to Tesla code of conduct, it is prohibited for all employees, including the executives, to use drugs within the workplace or even out of the office, However, based on this article, it seems as though the frontrunners of Tesla clearly violates the rules.

Investors have often turned a blind eye to concerns about Musk, including his drug use, especially when Tesla is doing well, investors and people close to the board. Rice, the director who didn’t stand for re-election in 2019, raised concerns about his drug consumption more than once inside conversations with board members about Musk’s increasingly erratic behavior during her two year tenure on the board, according to people familiar with her concerns. She informally asked whether the board should investigate and was brushed off.

This behavior does not demonstrate Ethical leadership, not just to the employees but to the public people. I think this can also be related to the Might-equal-right Principle.

Google Violated Its Standards in Ad Deals

Google charges a premium from major brands promising that the ads it places will run on high-quality sites, before the page’s main video content, with the audio on, and that brands will only pay for ads that aren’t skipped, however research has shown that Google actually places ads in small, muted, automatically-played videos off to the side of a page’s main content, on sites that don’t meet Google’s standards for monetization, among other violations. This is a bridge of trust and goes against Business ethics referencing one of the Module materials (Esprit De Corps) which talks about Integrity as one of the factors of virtues when in business.
